ここ数年、夏のショーツといえばナイロン。速乾で、軽くて、機能的。Allenwood自身も、去年ナイロンショーツを出しました。でも正直、少し飽きてしまったんです。便利なんだけど、どこかガジェットめいて、アウトドアの匂いが強すぎる。機能は度外視で、革靴にも合わせちゃえるような、ただの短パンが穿きたい——そんな天邪鬼な気持ちから、この一本は生まれました。

素材は、6.4ozのライトなUS Cottonスウェット。顔料染めと洗いをかけ、一点ずつ表情の違うビンテージライクな風合いに仕上げました。ウエストには、スピンドルでもゴム紐でもない、平紐を。トラッドな空気をまとう、ちょっとしたこだわりです。

色合わせも、見どころ。Pepperには生成り、Blue Jeanにはサーモンオレンジ、Ivoryにはピスタチオの刺繍を添えました。さりげなく、Allenwoodらしい色使いで、品の中に遊び心を効かせました。

For a few years now, summer shorts have meant nylon: quick-dry, light, technical. We put out a nylon pair ourselves last year. But honestly, we got a little tired of it — handy as it is, it carries a gadgety, outdoorsy air. We just wanted a good pair of shorts, function aside — the kind you'd slip on with leather shoes to wander a quiet stretch of coast. This is that pair.

The waist uses a flat drawcord — not a round spindle or elastic — for a quieter, more trad feel. And the colors are where Allenwood's eye shows: ecru embroidery on Pepper, salmon-orange on Blue Jean, pistachio on Ivory. One quiet stitch of color, and the whole thing looks sharp.
